Clan hit three in first period, beat Giants

Glasgow Clan took their second home victory over Belfast Giants this season, and first in the league, with a 5-2 home victory on Friday night at Braehead Arena.

It was an ideal start for the home side who ran in three goals in the opening period. With virtually his side's first shot of the game, Steven Seigo cut in from the point and fired high into Tom McCollum's net from the top of the circle with 4:52 played. A little under eight minutes later, Rylan Schwartz was left all alone at the top of the crease to beat McCollum and make it 2-0. At 17:47, Deven Sideroff backhanded through McCollum's five-hole in front to put Clan three ahead.

When Alex Forbes made it 4-0 8:30 into period two, Giants head coach Adam Keefe called a time-out and was visibly unsatisfied with his team.

Whatever he said had the desired effect - Jordan Kawaguchi tipped Josh Roach's shot past Landon Bow at 31:58, while Ciaran Long then won a foot-race with Reece Kelly and beat Bow five-hole at 36:15 to cut the deficit back down to two.

Heading into the final two minutes and probably thinking about pulling McCollum, Keefe could only watch on as Sideroff fed Mitchell Heard for the Clan's fifth with 95 seconds to play, settling the game.
