4 Scenarios heading into Final Cup Group Game

A lot could happen on Sunday night

When Cardiff Devils take on Nottingham Panthers on Sunday 22 December, it won't just be them watching on with interest.

Each different outcome from the game, i.e. either team winning in regulation or in OT/SO, has a different bearing on the next round of the Challenge Cup - involving Glasgow Clan and Coventry Blaze for the Elimination Game.

The Elimination Game is contested between the third-placed team in Group A, and the second-placed team in Group B. Whichever team has the highest Win % in the competition has the option of playing at home.

Here's what could happen:

If Cardiff win in regulation:

  • Devils into Semi-Finals
  • Panthers into Elimination game
    • Panthers option of home vs. Glasgow (65% vs. 63%)

    If Cardiff win in OT/SO:

    • Panthers into Semi-Finals
    • Devils into Elimination game
      • Devils option of home vs. Glasgow (65% vs. 63%)

    If Nottingham win in regulation:

    • Panthers into Semi-Finals
    • Blaze into Elimination game
      • Glasgow option of home vs Blaze (63% vs. 60%)

    If Nottingham win in OT/SO:

    • Panthers into Semi-Finals
    • Devils into Elimination game
      • Glasgow option of home vs. Devils (63% vs. 60%)

The Elimination Game will take place in early January. Two options of dates for this game were set aside at the Fixtures Meeting in the summer, and we will confirm the game and the dates after finding out which two teams will contest the fixture, and ensuring that the visiting team has confirmed travel plans.
