Fournier suspended for two games
Devils defenseman receives suspension
On Saturday night in Cardiff, Devils defenseman #20 Gleason Fournier was assessed a five-minute major penalty for Fighting and a game misconduct for an Aggressor.
With two seconds left on the game clock, Coventry forward #71 Morten Jurgens chases down a loose puck heading for the Cardiff goaltender #30 Mac Carruth. As Carruth passes the puck up the ice, Jurgens takes an unnecessary swipe at Carruth. Devils #25 Riley Brandt takes exception and skates towards Jurgens. Multiple altercations start in the corner .
In the initial altercation, Devils #20 Gleason Fournier ties up with Blaze #7 Terrance Amorosa. After tying up in the corner, the pair fall to the ice where Amorosa ends up on top of Fournier, upon which goaltender #30 Mac Carruth pulls Amorosa off his teammate Fournier. Blaze’s #27 Chase Gresock holds Fournier and doesn’t look to enter an altercation.
Fournier forces Gresock’s head down which causes his helmet to come off. Fournier then delivers a punch to Gresock who is an unwilling-combatant causing an injury. This is an Aggressor .
It is important to note that at no time in the sequence does Gresock show any interest in engaging with Fournier in this manner. While we acknowledge Fournier’s frustration at being pinned to the ice by a prior opponent, players are at no time allowed to grossly violate league rules in retribution or retaliation.
To Summarise:
- Aggressor
- Unwilling Combatant
Effective immediately #20 Gleason Fournier is fined and suspended for two games.
The Devils were informed at 09:35 on 30/12/24.
