Friday: Celebrating Valentine's Day with three games

If you're looking for a romantic Valentine's Day evening, then three games across the Elite Ice Hockey League could be just the ticket.
Friday night's offering starts at 7pm in Belfast, with the league-leading Giants hosting basement side Fife Flyers. The hosts have already picked up a win this week, a 3-0 victory over Nottingham Panthers in the Challenge Cup, and are eight points clear at the top of the table. They've lost just three of their past 15 games in all competitions. The Flyers haven't won in six games and are 17 points adrift at the foot of the table. Fife are one of few teams to have won in Belfast this season, having picked up a Cup win in 2024.

Glasgow Clan host Guildford Flames in a meeting of the teams placed seventh and sixth in the standings. The Flames have an eight-point advantage having played two games more than Clan, heading into the latter's final 19 games of the season. A loss here would leave the home side with a lot to do across their final set of games to move up in the standings. Clan ended Nottingham Panthers' long winning run last weekend with a shootout win south of the border; the Flames picked up a point in Belfast and lost out to Cardiff in the last five minutes - arguably should've having picked up more than just the one point out of those two games.

If either Manchester Storm or Dundee Stars want to make the playoffs, then they're very likely to need to win tonight's game in regulation when the sides meet in Altrincham. Dundee are in the driving seat for the final playoff place, sitting eight points above the Storm, albeit having played three games more. Dundee have been one of the league's stronger teams after the last 10 or so games, while Storm are .500 in their last four. The home side currently have the league's worst special teams, something they'll need to change if they're to make a run at the playoffs.
