After knocking the Giants out of the Challenge Cup, Cardiff headed back to Belfast to get their third straight win against the Giants but this time for league points.
Cardiff took the lead in Belfast 9:35 into the game through Masi Marjamaki's shot in the slot after the Giants turned the puck over in their own zone. With no more goals scored by the end of the period it marked the seventh period in a row that the Giants had failed to score against the Devils.
The Devils' one-goal lead became two at 27:43 with Stephen Dixon's backhanded effort in the slot after good play in the corner to force possession of the puck. The Devils killed off a 5-on-3 Giants’ powerplay as time ticked down in period two which ended with the visitors ahead by a pair of goals.
Bobby Farnham finally got the Giants on the board at 45:47 with a shot from a very tight angle to get themselves well back into the game. Cardiff were however back ahead exactly three minutes later when Sam Jardine was given too much space in the offensive zone. Ben Bowns pulled off a series of spectacular saves to keep the Devils two ahead however he was only able to hold out until 4:58 to go – Shaonne Morissonn unable to clear the puck and Curtis Hamilton with the shot past Bowns to pull the score back to 2-3. However, former Giant Blair Riley killed off the game with a late empty net goal to ensure the two points would head back to Cardiff.
