Sheffield Advance to POFW25

Steelers 5-4 Clan (OT)

The Clan entered Sheffield up by two goals on the aggregate score after they secured a massive 3-1 home win two nights ago in Glasgow, while the Steelers were determined to keep their playoff hopes alive and even the score early.

Joona Huttula sent a pass from the Steelers' zone to the stick of Mitchell Balmas on the Clan blueline, allowing the Canadian to breakaway and beat Landon Bow glove side to give Sheffield a 1-0 lead on the night at 07:38. (2-3)

After a big save by Matt Greenfield to deny the Clan their first goal of the evening, an odd-man rush developed up the other end of the ice for the Steelers. Brandon Whistle used this to send the puck off a Glasgow defenseman's skate and past Bow at 08:29, giving the home side a 2-0 lead and equalising the aggregate score. (3-3)

Sheffield began the second period with a powerplay opportunity, due to a late call against the Clan in the first. Kevin Tansey took advantage of this, as he sent a wrist shot from above the faceoff dot into the Clan goal at 21:45, giving the Steelers the lead in the aggregate scoring for the first time. (4-3)

Steven Seigo got the Clan on the board late in the second period, with his shot from the high slot deflecting off the stick of a Steelers player and past Greenfield at 37:14 to make it 3-1 and once again equalise the aggregate score. (4-4)

A scoreless third period saw neither team find the back of the net, despite numerous chances for both sides, including a brief 5-on-3 powerplay for the Clan and Mitchell Balmas hitting the post in the final few minutes.

As such, overtime was required to break the aggregate score tie which sat at 4-4. Daniel Leavens carried the puck into the offensive zone, sending a pass over to Patrick Watling who beat Bow blocker side and secured Sheffield a place in the playoff Semi Finals next weekend.
