Belfast Giants joined Cardiff on 40 points and five behind leaders Sheffield thanks to a comfortable three-goal home win against Coventry.
Coventry started brightly but were behind to Curtis Leonard's goal for the Giants with 7:53 played. Leonard then turned provider for Elgin Pearce, setting up the Giants' second for the latter to tap in at the back post with 10:55 played. Rickard Palmberg's patient finish after Curtis Hamilton's pass from behind the net at 13:18 had the Giants three up after the first period.
Ross Venus missed a penalty shot 7:13 into period two as the Blaze looked for a way back into the game - but did get themselves on the board on 34 minutes thanks to Dillon Eichstadt's shot going all the way through from the blueline.
That was however as good as things would get for the visitors - Belfast seeing out the final period for a comfortable win.
