Tonight: Familiar foes await Panthers
Start of Continental Cup Final
Nottingham Panthers open their IIHF continental Cup campaign against familiar foes SønderjyskE of Denmark tonight.
The team from Vojens hosted the Semi-Final stage of this season's tournament, and are again welcoming teams to their home for the final round. Nottingham needed a result against the Danes last time out to ensure they qualified and did so with a 4-2 win.
SønderjyskE haven't lost a game in regulation in five and were three unbeaten before their shootout loss last time out. In the Metal Ligaen, they sit third but are some distance behind league leaders Aalborg.
The Panthers have won three straight in the Elite League and, after a poor start to the season, have got themselves on the cusp of breaking into the top three. They won the Continental Cup in 2017, their way into the 2017/18 Champions Hockey League which saw a magical run to the Round of 16.
SønderjyskE's roster contains ex-Panthers goalie Patrick Galbraith, and Justin Maylan who started this season in Dundee.
"We won't change our style of play, it's the way we've been doing things for the last four to five months, and we'll stick to our gameplan. That said, we are playing teams we don't know as well, so we will go into them with a slightly different mindset." - Steffen Frank (Forward, SønderjyskE)
"Ever since the previous round we've been looking forward to this weekend. It's a championship weekend and every single game matters, as it does in the Elite League now at this time of year. It's our time to showcase our team to the world. Two out of three won cut it this time around, but spirits are high because we have been playing well." Sam Herr (Captain, Nottingham Panthers)
