Devils keep up chase with home win

Cardiff Devils ensured they stay seven points off top spot in the league with four games in hand thanks to a hard-fought home win against Nottingham Panthers.

It was Mike McNamee who gave the Devils the lead at a sold-out Viola Arena, but things were level with Jon Rheault batting home a loose puck in the crease on a powerplay at 16:57.

The Devils took control in period two with Blair Riley putting them back ahead coming in unmarked at the far post with only 26 seconds played. Just over five minutes later Joey Haddad got the Devils' only powerplay goal of the evening finishing a nice play at 25:38, and then 35 seconds later he scored his side's fourth after excellent work by Charles Linglet - a goal that puts Haddad back on top of the league's top goal-scorers. Sam Herr pulled one back for the Panthers at 36:14 but they were unable to find any further ways past Ben Bowns in the third and the Devils secured the two points.
