Panthers add 6'8" defenseman
Size added to Nottingham's blue line
The Nottingham Panthers' blue line has been strengthened for season 2021/22 with the signing of defenseman Taylor Doherty.
The 6'8" Canadian was a 2009 #57 overall draft pick by the San Jose Sharks, although spent the majority of his time in North America in the AHL, clocking up over 250 appearances. The 30-year-old headed to Europe in 2018 and joined Liberec where the defenseman was 1+5 in 50 Czech Extraliga games before spending the following season in the ECHL.
Last year, Doherty joined Krakow in November and went on to ice in 22 league games for Cracovia, plus another 17 in the playoffs. He ended the season 4+12.
“It’s hard not to be obvious but at six feet eight inches we’re expecting Taylor to be a big presence on the blueline," said Director of Hockey Gui Doucet. "He’s a good skater and moves the puck well for a big man. Like many before him, he wants to play in Nottingham and show the fans what he can bring to the table. We’re pleased to have him.”
