A year later than planned, defenseman Alex Yuill will line up for the Guildford Flames in season 2021/22.
The 26-year-old Canadian agreed to join Paul Dixon's team last summer, but his professional hockey debut was deferred by 12 months when the Elite League season was cancelled. However, a year on he can't wait to get going.
"I am excited to finally see the city of Guildford, meet my teammates and be an asset to the team" said the blue-liner.
During his five seasons at the University of Ontario Tech in the USports league, Yuill played 140 games, scoring 12 goals and assisting on 69 others.
"We were glad to hear that Alex’s desire to compete was not dampened by the interruption to last season,”"explained Head Coach Dixon. "Certainly, returning to the intensity of full-contact, competitive play will be a bit of an adjustment, but he is still a younger guy and has had enough ice and training time to be able to slip back in.
"We have been very mobile and good at puck management to help us leave our own zone so continuing to fill holes with players who have those skills, like Alex, is a key part of building a team that does not spend an inordinate amount of time defending constant pressure.
"We think Alex will be a great fit with the kind of team we want to put on the ice, and we are looking forward to watching him debut with us."
