Defenseman Sam Ruopp is joining the Belfast Giants for 2021/22.

The Canadian is the younger brother of Harrison Ruopp, who played for the Manchester Storm in 2018/19, and comes to the Elite League after playing 21 games last season for the Allen Americans in the ECH (2+9 in 21 games).

25-year-old Ruopp spent three seasons in USports at the University of Saskatchewan, playing 60 regular-season games and scoring 33 points. He spent four seasons in the WHL prior to that with the Prince George Cougars, and captained the team in his final three seasons.

"We’re excited to add another strong addition to our blue line in Sam Ruopp. He is a very talented hockey player, who we have been watching closely for a number of years," said Head Coach Adam Keefe. "There has been high demand for his signature, and I am pleased he has chosen Belfast for his first full pro season. He will bring a physical presence to the Giants defence core, and, having been a Captain before, he brings valued leadership to the group. I think he will make a big impression with the fans.”
