Finnish forward Mikko Vainonen is the next new face to be confirmed by the Glasgow clan ahead of season 2021/22.

The 27-year-old originally left his homeland in 2013 to spend two seasons in the OHL, and was a #118 overall draft pick by the Nashville Predators in 2012, but returned to Finland after a year in the ECHL.

The defenseman's career has seen him play a season and a half in the DEL, two years in the EBEL, and most recently half a season in the Alps League. Vainonen has also clocked up some 92 games in his own country's top flight.

“Mikko is a big, strong defenceman, who is also a good skater. The reports I received tell me he can play in various situations, particularly powerplay and penalty kill," said Head Coach Malcolm Cameron.

"He’s good in front of the net and in the corners and while he’s a relatively young player, carried a lot of experience so he’s a good fit of our club and I can’t wait for him to be part of the Clan this year."
