Sheffield Steelers kicked off their Premier Sports Challenge Cup campaign with a three-goal home win over Manchester Storm at the Utilita Area.
Matthew Petgrave set the Steelers on their way just 4:12 into the game, and although the hosts were pegged back by Jesper Ohrvall at 7:50 they led by two after 20 minutes. Adam Raška re-established the Steelers' lead at 13:12, before Scott Allen converted on the powerplay 72 seconds before the end of the period.
Petgrave found the net again at 38:27 to give the Steelers a 4-1 advantage through 40 minutes.
Daniel Ciampini made the game more than safe with the Steelers' fifth 1:53 into period three, with Rya Barrow scoring his first professional goal to pull the score back to 5-2 with 6:19 to play.
