Guildford Flames survived a late Fife Flyers comeback to log a 5-3 road win in Kirkcaldy and move up to second in the Premier Sports Elite League standings.
Things were going well for the visitors who led by two after the opening 20 minutes in Scotland. Daniel Tedesco put them ahead after just 93 seconds with the second at a loose puck in front of Shane Owen, while Bradley Lalonde found the top corner from the point with a neat wrist shot at 9:19.
The home side struggled to get much going in period two either, and found themselves three down when Lalonde's shot form the blue line trickled through Owen for a powerplay goal at 31:35. When Owen Griffiths made it 4-0 2:36 into period three, it looked as if the game was over.
However, Janne Kivilahti hit straight back for the Flyers at 43:18, ad just over five minutes later Zack Phillips crashed home a bouncing puck to make it to pull the score back to 2-4. Shawn Cameron's powerplay goal brought the Flyers back to within one with 4:46 to play, and when Brett Ferguson was called for a tripping minor a little over a minute later the Flyers had all the momentum. Guildford killed off that penalty and as the clock wound down, Sam Marklund hit the empty net with 37 seconds remaining to make the Flames' win safe.
