Devils blank Storm in feisty game

Cardiff Devils shut out Manchester Storm to celebrate a four-point weekend after coming through a feisty encounter at the Storm Shelter.

The main talking point of the opening period was a scuffle involving Chays Ruddy, Scott Simmonds, Mark Lewis and Riley Brandt resulting in all four receiving fighting penalties.

The ill-feeling between the teams continued into period two, but the deadlock was eventually broken just past the halfway point. Jake Coughler's wrist shot on the powerplay beat a partially screened Hayden Lavigne to give the Devils a one-goal lead at 33:10.

Josh Waller pounded on Cole Sanford's feed just shy of three minutes later to double the visitors' advantage, putting them two ahead as the second intermission arrived.

Ben Davies scored on the empty net with 71 seconds left to seal the win for the Devils, while Taran Kozun recorded a 27-shot shutout.
