Cardiff Devil extended their winning run to four games, ad two straight in the Premier Sports Challenge Cup, with a win by the odd goal in seven over Guildford Flames on Saturday night.
Ryan Tair's goal at 4:50 put the Flames ahead in front of the 1,662 crowd at the Spectrum, but the hosts were pegged back just over four minutes later through Josh Brittain capitalising on a turnover in the Flames' end.Joey Martin found the back of Eamon McAdam's net from the slot with 91 seconds left in period one to give the Devils the lead.
The Flames were level at 29:44 through Sam Marklund, but just 65 seconds later Brodie Reid had the visitors back in front - those were the only goals of period two, leaving everything to play for in the third.
Josh Waller finished a Devils' counter-attack move after the Flames had a good shorthanded chance to put Cardiff 4-2 ahead with 15:37 to play. The final 15 minutes would be nervy, however, after Turer Ripplinger got he hosts back to within one at 46:37.
McAdam was pulled in the final few minutes but the hosts couldn't find a way past Ben Bowns for the equaliser.
