Janne Laakkonen came back to haunt his old team with a late winner to help Fife Flyers past Coventry Blaze on Saturday night.
It was a busy start at the Fife Ice Arena with five goals in the opening period. Peyton Frantti and David Clements struck at 8:46 and 14:33 respectively to put the Blaze two up, before former Coventry forward Janne Laakkonen pulled a goal back for the hosts at 17:24. Colton Yellow Horn reestablished the visitors' two-goal advantage with 1:56 left in the period.
One goal followed in the second period, where Jonas Emmerdahl tied the game up for Fife with a quick wrist shot at 24:49.
With less than two minutes to go in the third period, Mikael Johansson put the Flyers up 4-3 after getting hold of a loose puck in front of Paavo Hölsä's net. Coventry pulled the goalie to try to equalise, but Fife won the puck, and Laakkonen scored his second goal of the night to set a final score of 5-3.
