Manchester Storm edged Sheffield Steelers in a ten-goal thriller at the Storm Shelter in the Viaplay Challenge Cup, in a game between two teams that really don't like each other.
Just eight seconds into the game, Chays Ruddy skated after Davey Phillips to follow up an incident from the last time the teams met. The Storm defenseman was ejected for fighting, and his penalty led to both Adam Raška and Daniel Ciampini scoring to put the Steelers up by two with only 3:22 on the board.
Jesper Ohrvall pulled one back on the powerplay for the Storm at 10:26.
Period to belonged to the Storm, who were level through Dallas Ehrhardt on 24 minutes, then ahead thanks to Ryan Barrow at 25:13. He set up Cole Carter seven minutes later to make it 4-2, both powerplay goals. Danny Kristo pulled one back for the Steelers but Tyson Fawcett's finish from the slot made it 5-3 with 1:14 left in the period, the Storm's fifth straight powerplay goal.
Ciampini's second of the night made it 5-4 with 13 and a half minutes to go, but Jake Bricknell put Storm back two ahead at 49:58.
Storm's win means they'll secure a place in the next round of the cup with a victory tomorrow against Nottingham Panthers in any form.
