Coventry Blaze ensured top spot in Group B of the Viaplay Challenge Cup with a home win over Guildford Flames at the Skydome.
After a scoreless first period, Colton Yellow Horn opened the scoring at 21:21 surprising Taz Burman with a quick slapshot to put the Coventry Blaze ahead early in the second period. Bradley Lalonde tied the game up for the Flames at 26:40, finding the net with a quick shot. Marly Quince scored late into the second period to put the Blaze up 2-1 at 39:30.
The home side then had the perfect start to period three when Kim Tallberg netted Coventry's third goal by capitalizing on a tricky rebound in front of the net after only 14 seconds. The Flames did not take long to respond, however, as Ben O'Connor scored a quick one-timer at 41:10. Ross Venus scored an empty netter at 59:43 to set the final score of 4-2.
