Guildford Flames and Coventry Blaze get the final Viaplay Challenge Cup Quarter-Final matchup under way at 6pm this Saturday evening with the first leg of their series taking place at the Spectrum.
The sides were originally scheduled to contest a league fixtures tonight, but switched it up after the draw for the next round of the cup was made. They'll play the second leg in Coventry on 22 December. Despite currently sitting first and second in the league, the Flames and Blaze were sixth and third seeds into the cup's knock-out stage respectively.
While the Flames are taking a break from league action for the night, they do so in an excellent position. Paul Dixon's men have won eight straight games since losing to the Blaze in their final cup group stage fixture, and in league-only action are on a 10-game unbeaten run. Coventry are the closest team to the Flames in the standings sitting eight points behind, although they have played more games than the teams just below them. Danny Stewart's team have won four of their last seven games.
Home wins have been the story of all four cup meetings between the teams this season, although Guildford took victory in Coventry when the sides met in the league two weeks ago. Coventry's last win in Guildford was in March 2022.
