Brodie Reid fired home a one-timer on the powerplay to give Cardiff Devils a 3-2 overtime victory over Coventry Blaze in font of 2,414 spectators at the Skydome.
Reid opened the scoring after just 64 seconds to give the Devils the lead on the road, but they were pegged back by Mitch Cook's tip off David clement's shot from the blue line at 9:25.
John Curran faked a shot on a 2-on-1 and then set up Cook for the back post finish to give the Blaze the lead on the powerplay at 15:19.
That lead held until 44 seconds into period two. Marcus Crawford sent Trevor Cox through 1-on-0 with Paavo Hölsä to tie the game early in the second.
Despite 37 more shots over periods two and three combined, the score remained tied until the end of period three- although the Blaze could have snatched the points with a late powerplay but were unable to convert.
With the Devils killing that off, they were then handed a powerplay opportunity of their own in overtime and needed just 40 seconds before Crawford set up Reid for the one-timer to win it.
