Saturday: Final games of 2022!

It's New Year's Eve and we have a full schedule of Viaplay Elite League action to mark the final gameday of 2022. There's plenty of hockey to keep you busy throughout the afternoon.

Action today starts at 2pm in Glasgow! Clan will be taking on Dundee Stars at Braehead Arena as they look to cut the gap on the Stars down from the current three points (having played a game more). Glasgow lost both games to Belfast after Christmas, while Dundee split their series with Fife with a home win each.

At 4pm, league leaders Guildford are in unchartered territory when they travel to Cardiff. After an 11-game winning streak came to an end of Boxing Day, the Flames have now lost two in a row for the first time this season and find their lead at the top cut down to just one point. They face a Devils team with five straight victories behind them.

Nottingham Panthers host Coventry Blaze in a battle between the teams placed sixth and fifth respectively. Although they're separated by one place, the teams are 10 points apart in the standings. If the Panthers want to crack the top five, they'll need a pair of wins over this series with the Blaze. Coventry, meanwhile, are trying to get their league campaign back on track after losses in their last three games.

Also at 4pm, form team Sheffield Steelers will be hoping they don't slip up against a Manchester team that's made beating sides in the top four somewhat of a specialty over recent weeks. After two road wins in Belfast, Storm then beat leaders Guildford home and away over the festive period to put themselves just one point behind going into the top six - and, at the same time, creating a six-point gap between themselves and those chasing a playoff place. Storm's last win at Utilita Arena was in September 2018, a run of 15 straight defeats on the Steelers' ice.

The day's final game, starting at 5pm, is in Fife where the Flyers host Belfast in a reverse of their meeting on 29 December. The Giants came out 3-1 winners at a sold-out SSE Arena that night to extend their streak to seven wins in a row, while Flyers have just two wins in their last ten league fixtures.
