Happy New Year to you and your families from everyone connected with the Viaplay Elite League!
2023 begins with two games this New Year's Day, with another pair to follow in 2 January. Today, all of the top three are in action, and the day could theoretically end with all three joint top.
Having now suffered three defeats on the bounce and lost their position as league leaders, Guildford Flames are on home ice for the visit of Cardiff Devils. The Welsh side came out 4-2 winners yesterday to move onto a record of six straight wins which has seen them move back to within two points of the top, although they have played one game more. Cardiff's last league win in Guildford was in this day exactly a year ago.

New leaders Sheffield head into what will be a sold out Storm Shelter in Manchester at 5.30pm this evening. The Steelers eased to a 7-1 victory when the sides met yesterday to extend Storm's long winless record in Sheffield and extend their winning run to 10 games in all competitions. That defeat was Storm's first game in four where they failed to collect at least a point.
