Fife Flyers climbed off the foot of the Viaplay Elite League standings with a home overtime win over Coventry Blaze.
The sides were scoreless through 65 minutes in Coventry six night before this fixture, and played out another 20 with nothing between them as the first period ended goalless in Kirkcaldy.
The deadlock was finally broken 2:19 into period two - Bari McKenzie notching his second of the season to put the Flyers ahead. Coventry levelled at 24:05 thanks to a well-placed pass from Marley Quince to the back post where Kim Tallberg was waiting all alone. However, the home side were back ahead with 7:23 left in period two as Reece Hasch got the final touch on a loose puck in front.
Jack Billings tied the game with eight minutes left in period three, and the Blaze had to survive a late John Curran tripping penalty to get to overtime.
Coventry had the better of the possession and chances in the early stages of the bonus period as the Flyers struggled to connect passes together. However, when Kamerin Nault forced a turnover in the Blaze's zone, Brady Norrish was left with little choice but to bring down the Flyers' forward and take a penalty. From the resulting faceoff, the Flyers moved the puck around and eventually set up Zack Phillips for a one-timer that flew past a screened Paavo Hölsä to give Fife the extra point.
