McNally suspended for one game
Steelers forward receives suspension
On Friday night in Belfast, Sheffield Steelers forward Brandon McNally was assessed an instigator minor penalty, a major penalty for fighting, and a game misconduct penalty (2 minor + 5 major + 20 Game misconduct).
Upon automatic review of the situation, the appropriate on-ice penalties were assessed to McNally in this situation. The rules on this play are clearly defined in the IIHF Rulebook and EIHL Casebook as follows:
46.3 Instigator
- EIHL - Instigator in Final Five Minutes of Regulation Time (or Anytime in Overtime) - A player who is deemed to be the instigator of an altercation in the final five (5) minutes of regulation time or at any time in overtime shall be assessed an instigator minor penalty, a major penalty for fighting, and a game misconduct penalty, (2 minor + 5 major + 20 Game misconduct).
FINES AND SUSPENSIONS
Instigator/Aggressor in Final Five Minutes of Regulation Time (or Anytime in Overtime)
- a. A player who is deemed to be the instigator/aggressor of an altercation in the final five (5) minutes of regulation time or at any time in overtime shall be suspended for one additional game, pending a review of the incident.
Effective immediately, Sheffield Steelers’ Brandon McNally is fined and suspended for one game.
This incident will remain on the player’s record for the remainder of the 2022/23 season.
