Saturday: Devils, Flames and Steelers chasing leaders

Photo: James Assinder

Cardiff Devils face Guildford Flames while Sheffield Steelers meet Fife Flyers again as the three teams at the top try to chase down new leaders Belfast Giants.

Guildford were knocked off top spot for the first time since the early part of the season when they were beaten 6-1 by Belfast on Wednesday night, and no head to Cardiff to face the team one place and one point behind them. The Devils picked up one point out of four before the international break and haven't played since - the Flames' only game after the pause was that defeat to the Giants which saw them go two points behind Belfast. While Guildford have a pair of games in hand, a loss here and other results going against them could see them end the night fourth. Cardiff ran out winners at Ice Arena Wales when the sides met over New Year.

In Sheffield, Fife Flyers are back at the Utilita Arena just days after knocking the Steelers out of the Challenge Cup at the Semi-Final stage. The hosts gave up a three-goal lead that night before going out on penalty shots and will be in the mood for swift revenge. Fife hadn't scored in Sheffield this season until that game, although their wait for a win there, stretching back to 2018, goes on as the game technically ended as a draw. Sheffield are four points behind leaders Belfast having played two games fewer, while five are a point outside the playoffs. The teams will meet again on Sunday in Kirkcaldy.
