Sheffield Steelers took a shootout win to earn maximum league points against Fife Flyers this weekend and go some way to taking revenge for the Viaplay Challenge Cup Semi-Final.
In nine regulation periods between the teams this week, only three have produced goals and after a 1-0 win for the Steelers in 60 minutes on Saturday night, Sunday produced another tight game with no goals through 60 or indeed 65 in Kirkcaldy.
Over the course of regulation, which was played at good space and with very few penalties, Janne Kivilahti had the Flyers' best chances but couldn't manage a finish; while for the Steelers Robert Dowd had a guilt-edge opportunity to win it in overtime without converting.
This time the shootout did produce goals. Danny Kristo and Dillon Lawrence both scored in the second round, but Marc-Olivier Vallerand's tidy finish in the fourth was enough to win it for Sheffield.
