Belfast Giants continued their excellent week so far with a 6-1 victory over Coventry Blaze in part one of the weekend's double-header at the SSE Arena.
Fresh off their Viaplay Challenge Cup win on Wednesday night, the Giants got the perfect start with a go-ahead goal from Steve Owre with only 3:30 played. The hosts were on top for large spells of the opening period with Blaze grateful to Paavo Hölsä for a point-blank save to stop the Giants doubling their lead. An excellent back-check stick from David Clements also prevented David Goodwin making it 2-0 at the end of the first.
The Giants scored early in period two as well with an excellent Scott Conway finish off an Owre pass to double their lead with only 21 seconds played. With Ciaran Long sitting a hooking minor, Mark Cooper raced away to score shorthanded ay 28:43 and put the Giants three ahead. Owre grabbed his second of the game at 34:02, on the powerplay, to put the Giants in full control.
Conway and Cooper scored either side of a Mitch Cook goal that put the Blaze on the board as the Giants rounded out a 6-1 win.
