Sunday: Early starts crucial for title race

Three games start at 4pm today in the Viaplay Elite League, and two of them are crucial for the league title race.
Belfast Giants could be on course to have a shot at lifting the Viaplay Elite League trophy next week if they can get past Cardiff Devils in part two of their weekend double-header, and results elsewhere go the right way for them. The Giants came through 3-1 winners against the Devils yesterday and are looking complete a home sweep of the Welsh side this season. Cardiff's title hopes will be mathematically over if they lose this fixture.

One of Sheffield Steelers and Guildford Flames will end the night in the driving seat chasing down the Giants when the two sides meet at the Utilita Arena. They both won on Saturday night to set up the all-important clash on Sunday, but it will likely, although not mathmatically, be the end of title hopes for whichever team loses this game. Each meeting between the sides this season has been won by the road team so far.

In Nottingham, the Panthers host the team two points and one place above them in Manchester Storm. If the Panthers want to leapfrog their opponents they need to win tonight to do so, and then make use of their game to put some daylight between themselves and the Storm. Manchester were home winners over Fife on Saturday while the Panthers lost to Sheffield for the ninth straight time this season.
