Sheffield Steelers moved back clear in third in the Viaplay Elite League with a 3-2 victory over fourth-placed Cardiff Devils on Sunday afternoon.
The 7,048 fans at the Utilita Arena were treated to a fast start in period one with two goals inside the opening seven minutes.
Brodie Reid put the Devils ahead just 100 seconds into the game, with Robert Dowd tying things up at 6:48 - the only goals in the opening period.
A Brett Neumann shot deflected off Mark Louis' skate straight into the path of Alex Graham to put the Steelers ahead with 12:45 played in period two, however the Devils were level on a late powerplay thanks to a Cole Sanford slapshot from the far post 14 seconds before the buzzer.
The Steelers went back ahead with just under 15 minutes to go in period three. Evan Mosey threw the puck on net with the rebound falling to Branda Connolly to beat Ben Bowns at 45:26. The Devils pulled Bowns with well over two minutes to go in the search for an equaliser, but despite a late scramble around the front of Matt Greenfield's net they couldn't tie the game at the Steelers took the two points.
These teams will meet again on the final day of the season.
