Dundee Stars' rebuilding for the 2023/24 season has continued with the confirmation of two more signings.
Dundee-born Kris Inglis will be back with the team for the seventh consecutive Elite League season on the blue line. The 24-year-old has only ever played his hockey in Dundee, and has clocked up just shy of 300 appearances for his home-town team.
"Homegrown players are the fabric to any franchise in the Elite League and Kris Inglis has definitely been a staple with the Dundee Stars for the last few seasons," began Head Coach Marc LeFebvre. “I got to work with him quite a few seasons ago when he was a young lad and to see his progression over the last few seasons since I have been gone is tremendous and I am looking forward to working with him again.
“I had a list of players that I wanted back from the team last season, obviously Kris was on that successful team two seasons ago that got to the semi-finals, and knowing Kris personally from a while back, it was an easy decision for me to bring him back and to be part of the franchise again.”
Joining the Stars is 20-year-old goalie Lucas Brine. Born in Oxshott and having played junior hockey in Guildford, Brine headed to North America in 2015 where has has spent most of his career to date. He spent last season in the USPHL, stopping over 92% of shots in six games for Potomac Patriots, and more than 94% in 15 starts for the Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings.
“We are very excited to get a good, young goalie of Lucas’s pedigree," added LeFebvre. "He has got great numbers from playing over in the junior leagues of North America and he has represented GB at Under 20s level and had great success there. Checking with all my contacts over in North America in those leagues, people that I know, everything struck and from talking to the GB Under 20s Coach, Martin Grubb as well, everything struck on that accord too.
“Gone are the days of playing 60 straight games now in the Elite League, like we used to see but now you need two strong goaltenders and you see that all over the world. You need kind of a 1A and 1B, or a good tandem, to alleviate the pressure off of the starting goaltender, because you cannot have someone playing every single game and every single minute.
“So, you need a capable back up that is going to come in and give you some quality minutes and a chance to win when the starter is not playing and we are very confident Lucas can do that.”
