Cardiff Devils made an impressive start to the 2023/24 pre-season with their second straight victory over Belfast Giants when the sides met at a sold-out Vindico Arena on Saturday night.
The 3,100-strong crowd did, however, see their team go three down inside six minutes to powerplay goals from Daniel Tedesco, Oliver Cooper and Quinn Preston. Joey Martin's breakaway finish pulled one back for the hosts with just over seven minutes played.
Jamie Arniel got the Devils back to within one just before the mid-way point of the game, but two goals in 14 seconds turned the game on its head before period two was over: Trevor Cox tied the game at 38:13, with Ryan Barrow batting in a puck off the glass from Josh Waller's initial shot to put the hosts ahead at 38:27.
Jeff Baum tied the game with 12:02 to play in the third, but with no winner in regulation the sides went to overtime for the second successive night. After some extensive Giants pressure, Cole Ully found Evan Mosey for the game-winner past Jackson Whistle with 32 seconds left.
