A big final period helped Belfast Giants beat Dundee Stars on Saturday night.
Dundee raced into a two-goal lead, beating Tyler Beskorowany twice in the space of 90 seconds inside six minutes. Anthony Rinaldi fired home off a Josh Brittain feed to open the scoring at 4:25, followed by Brendan Harms dragging the puck around Beskorowany to double the lead at 5:55. Ara Nazarian pulled one back for the Giants at 6:11 as an explosive start to the game eventually mellowed. The sides split 24 shouts in the opening period.
Period two had just the one goal, but Dundee Head Coach Marc LeFebvre spoke in his post-period interview of his disappointment that the home side were not leading. Ben Lake hit the Giants' equaliser at 36:05 while James Phelan sat a sashing minor.
Three goals in nine minutes turned the game firmly in favour of the Giants. Jacob Friend's shot at 42:54 deflected in front of Carr to find th eback of the net with the Stars goalie helpless to stop it, while Quinn Preston then put the Giants 4-2 ahead at 46:59. Preston added the Giants' fifth at 51:54 with an excellent wrist shot high into Carr's net.
Daniel Tedesco's neat breakaway finish rounded off the scoring with 4:25 to play as the Giants completed an opening weekend double over the Stars, but with some very encouraging signs for LeFebvre and his new-look Dundee team.
