Flyers hit Clan for five

Fife Flyers began their new era under Tom Coolen with a four-goal win over Scottish rivals Glasgow Clan in front of a bumper crowd in Kirkcaldy.

It was an end to end opening period with the teams totally some 33 shots between them but no goals.

The game continued to be well contested in the second, but this time with goals at both ends. A well-taken Anthon Eriksson finish 41 seconds into the period put the Flyers into the lead, but they were pegged back at 24:27 by Robert Lachowicz with his first competitive goal for Clan - and first in the Elite League since March 2022.

However, the hosts were still to be ahead at the break. Bryce Reddick prevented a Flyers breakaway but was penalised for holding, resulting in a penalty shot that Teemu Pulkkinen excellently dispatched past fellow countryman Antti Karjalainen.

The final period belonged to the hosts, as it had done the night before in Glasgow. Max Humnitz showed quick hands to score from close range at 45:18, and two minutes later he took an excellent stretch pass from Casey Gilling to skate through and deke Karjalainen to make it 4-1. Pulkkinen made it five with 18 seconds to play with another wonderful deke on a stranded Karjalainen.

It's a win each for the Flyers and Clan after opening weekend.
