Donaghey double gets Devils up and running in league

Cardiff Devils won their opening league fixture by three goals in what was a feisty game against Glasgow Clan at the Vindico Arena.
The sides had already met twice in pre-season where the Devils won both games, but it was Clan who opened the scoring through through Mike Pelech who tipped Jake Bolton's shot past Ben Bowns with 2:37 played. The Devils responded and took complete control of threes with three goals in a little over as many minutes, however. Justin Crandall levelled it at 6:27, followed by Ben Davies (8:01) and Cody Donaghey (9:45) to give the home side a two-goal lead at the first intermission.
Donaghey did it all himself and finished excellently for the Devils' fourth at 27:48, on the powerplay, before then setting up Davies for a shorthanded finished with 3:33 left in the period. as Chad Pietroniro sat a charging major.
Clan added their second of the night 3:03 into the final period through Alex Forbes 10 seconds after Chad Pietroniro and Ryan Harrison dropped the gloves. With one second remaining, Dyson Stevenson took out his frustration on Marcus Crawford and was ejected from the game.
