Fife Flyers scored six straight goals, coming from 3-0 down in the process, to beat Dundee stars in Challenge cup action in Kirkcaldy.
Dundee were good value for their lead after the opening 20 minutes, but probably hadn't expected to be three ahead in their rivals' building after the first period. The opening goal had a big touch of fortune about it as Brady Pouteau looked to play the puck behind the net and inadvertently put it through Shane Owen's five-hole to give the Stars the lead at 2:28. Ryan Valentini doubled that advantage at 13:52 as others players on the ice were distracted by some pushing going on behind the play, while Anthony Rinaldi tipping Ryan Valentini's shot with 10 seconds left in the period - upheld after a video review - gave Dundee a 3-0 lead.
Fife needed a spark in period two, and got a pair of them. Johan Eriksson's shot was saved by Kevin Carr at 25:16, but the rebound hit the on-rushing Troy Lajeunesse and bounced into the net to get the hosts on the board. The Swede struck himself at 30:17 to get the Flyers back to within one ahead of the final 20 minutes of regulation. Marc LeFebvre called at timeout with just over 34 minutes on the clock to rally his troops who were on the back foot.
The Flyers' pressure for an equaliser was building, and it was no surprise when Kyle Osterberg levelled the scored 4:57 into period three. 31 seconds later, a Colin Shirley shot was saved by Carr but the puck sat in the crease kindly for Teemu Pulkkinen to fire home and put the hosts ahead. Shirley gave the Flyers a two-goal cushion just under two minutes later, while Johan Eriksson came in at the back post for a 6-3 goal at 53:35.
It was a win that put the Flyers into second in Group A - the teams meet again in Dundee on Sunday.
