Sheffield Steelers moved two points clear at the top of the Elite League with an overtime victory over Glasgow Clan. Clan had two Scottish scorers to help them earn a point, but are still looking for their first league win this season.
Glasgow took the lead at 5:29 with a Ryan Harrison throw on the net that was deflected into the net by Reece Kelly. However, as has been common for Clan of late, the lead didn't last lost. Marc-Oliver Vallerand levelled the game at 6:07 with a nice touch off a Robert Dowd pass to take him away from Antti Karjalainen and slot into the net. Clan missed a series of excellent chances to go back ahead - both Gary Haden and Jordan Buesa found themselves 1-on-0 against Matt Greenfield, but unable to beat the Steelers goalie.
Those missed opportunities came back to haunt the home side 5:45 into period two with an excellent Vallerand finish to put the steelers ahead. It was a lead they held for almost ten minutes until Robert Lachowicz found Alex Forbes in the slot to fire past Greenfield's glove hand.
The final 10 minutes of period three were end to end with both goalies in excellent form to keep the scores level. Karjalainen kept the Steelers out as they kept up the pressure in the final two minutes and both sides earned a point.
Clan got caught unable to clear the puck in overtime, allowing Mikko Juusola to give the Steelers the bonus point - the third straight home game Clan have lost in either overtime or a shootout.
