Steelers blank Flyers, stay on top

Matt Greenfield celebrated his second shutout in three starts as Sheffield Steelers defeated Fife Flyers 5-0 on Sunday afternoon in front of 6,416 fans at the Utilita Arena.
In truth, the game was effectively over inside the opening 11 minutes with the Steelers putting three into Shane Owen's net before the visitors had found their feet. Matt Petgrave had the hosts ahead with 1:42 gone when he got onto a loose puck from the stick of Mikko Juusola and fired high past Owen. A little under seven minutes later, Juusola himself took a Niklas Nevalainen pass in the slot and pick his spot to fire into the Flyers net. The Finn struck again at 10:50 to put the Steelers in complete control.
Brandon Whistle scored his first goal of the season midway through period two, , with Patrick Watling adding the finishing touches to a dominate Steelers performance five minutes from time.
