Dundee Stars recorded a win over Scottish rivals Fife Flyers in Kirkcaldy on Boxing Day with a 4-2 victory.
Andy Little, making his first start in the Flyers net of the season, pulled off an early double save to keep the scores level as the Stars had the better of the opening phases. It took a moment of brilliance to break the deadlock, and that came from Kyle Osterberg who broke down the wing before cutting inside and beating Kevin Carr short side to put the Flyers ahead with what would be the only goal of the opening period.
Dundee levelled early in period two. Just 81 seconds had been played when Carter Johnson beat Little as the Flyers defense stopped for an offside whistle that never came. Eight minutes later, Ryan Valentini finished an odd-man rush to put the Stars ahead.
Fife's failure to convert on the powerplay haunted them for a second straight game as they were unable to make any use of a Sean Allen major penalty for Checking from behind. Kevin Carr did pull off an excellent glove save from Troy Lajeunesse on the weak side to keep his side ahead.
Carr was again called into action four minutes into the third with an excellent double-pad stack. Anthony Rinaldi beat Little off a Carter Johnson faceoff win to put the Stars 3-1 ahead and give the Flyers an even harder task than they started the period with. However, Max Humitz pulled one back with 11 minutes remaining to give the home side some life but a powerplay one-timer from Brett Beaudoin put the Stars back two ahead with 6:57 to play.
Little was pulled late on to give the Flyers a 6-on-5 advantage, but they failed to trouble Carr and the Stars held on for the 4-2 win.
