Sheffield Steelers continued their unbeaten road record this season with a two-goal win over Glasgow Clan at a sold-out Braehead Arena on Friday night.
As they had done on Wednesday night in Cardiff, the Steelers fell a goal behind in the opening period. Darien Craighead scored on powerplay with 7:22 played to put the hosts ahead. However, as indeed they had also done on Wednesday, the Steelers responded to be ahead before the intermission. Patrick Watling's shot beat Jake Kielly low, short side to tie the game at 10:02, while Josh Nicholls got on a rebound from a Dominic Cormier shot to put the visitors ahead - both powerplay goals.
Vallerand put Sheffield 3-1 up 9:39 into period two with another shot beating Kielly on the short side, but Clan rallied to pull the score back to 2-3 with Dyson Stevenson deflecting a Cody Sol shot past Matt Greenfield at 33:34.
Nicholls put the Steelers back two ahead with 8:55 remaining in the game, but there were to be three more goals in the closing stages. Bryce Reddick got Clan back to within one again with 3:47 to go off a Robert Lachowicz pass across the crease, but a late minor on Luke Lynch for Hooking led to Robert Dowd making the powerplay count just 15 seconds later to make it 3-5 with 2:55 to go. The goal moved Dowd into second on the Steelers' all-time goals list overtaking Ron Shudra, and now only 26 behind Steve Nemeth.
Scott Allen added the visitors' sixth on the empty net to round off the scoring in the final seven seconds.
