Lucas Brine's debut in net for the Stars saw him thrown in at the deep end inside the opening seconds. A Lewis Hook shot was saved by the Stars young goalie, but the puck landed perfectly in the crease for Brett Ferguson to tap home with only 11 seconds played.
Guildford had the better of the early stages of period one and would have expected to be more than just the one goal ahead. Lewis Hook and Ryan Hughes scored 33 seconds apart to put the Flames 3-1 ahead early in period two. Tommy Parrottini pulled one back at 32:50, but 12:08 into period three the Flames looked out of sight thanks to Ryan Tait scoring their fourth of the night. That lead held until Brendan Harms tied the game with 54 seconds to go and Brine pulled.
Peter Crinella hit the winner 1:54 into overtime to give the Flames the two points they had probably deserved.
