Flyers get four-point weekend with road win

Fife Flyers secured a four-point weekend and moved into the playoff places thanks to a 3-2 win over Guildford Flames on the road on Sunday evening.

It was two Matts who gave the Flames a two-goal first period advantage. Matt Tugnutt netted from close range, possibly with the help of the crossbar, to open the scoring at 7:39. Later in the period, Matt Alvaro danced through the Flyers defense and beat Owen low blocker side to double the lead with 16:08 played.

Brady Pouteau was unhappy to be called for Interference at 21:59, but was less bothered about the call when he jumped out of the penalty box to set up Max Humitz on an odd-man rush. Eamon McAdam saved the initial shit, but Lucas Chiodo followed up to shoot into the empty net. Just over ten minutes later, former Flame Johan Eriksson popped up to beat McAdam and tie the game.

On a Steven McParland Holding minor, Max Humitz saw his shot deflect and squeeze through McAdam to put the Flyers ahead 4:25 into period three. Late in the Final period, Shane Owen made two excellent, sprawling saves to keep the Flyers ahead. Ryan Tait had a golden chance to tie the game as the Flames skated 6-on-5 but shot wide while in space in the slot. Paul Dixon called his time out with 29 seconds to play but to no avail, as Owen backstopped his team to victory with 39 saves in the game.
