Coventry Blaze ended their weekend double-header in Scotland with a win in Dundee, condemning the Stars to their third straight defeat and 10th in 12 games.
A scrappy opening period ended scoreless at the Dundee Ice Arena, with the hosts having a goal washed out inside the final 90 seconds of the period as Carter Johnson was adjudged to have kicked the put over the line.
Things sprang into life in period two which saw three goals. The returning Anthony Luciani wristed home to put the Blaze ahead 1:36 into things, before Jonathan McBean helped set up Johnson for a shot over Taran Kozun’s glove to tie the game at 30:06. A late minor on Elijah Vilio also saw Ryan Valentini pick up a penalty for his frustrations at another incident on the play, and the Blaze took advantage of their 5-on-3 with Kobe Roth putting them back ahead at 37:12.
Coventry were given a five-minute advantage in period three after Mark McKay was called on a standalone Boarding major, but the visitors were unable to improve their advantage. Not long after the penalty had expired, a bad rebound off a Carter Allen shot fell straight into the path of the on-rushing Kim Tallberg to slot home with 6:30 remaining.
Kobe Roth added the extras on the empty net to settle the game with 2:44 to play.
