Thursday: Make or break in playoff push

It could be make or break for one of Fife Flyers and Nottingham Panthers in their race for a playoff place this season.

The two sides meet in Kirkcaldy in a game that neither team can realistically afford to lose. Fife's four-point week moved them up to sixth in the Elite League table, and they could pull clear of Glasgow and Coventry with a win, plus go four points ahead of Dundee who are just outside of the playoff places. With four games to go, of which two are against Dundee, that might just see them into the post-season - or certainly leave it very much in their own hands. The Flyers' other two remaining fixtures are at home to both Guildford and Sheffield.
The Panthers picked up one point last weekend but so easily could have got four, losing out to Sheffield in the final period and Cardiff in a shootout. They are six points shy of a playoff place with only 10 more up for grabs before tonight. Either way, the Panthers will need to beat both Coventry and Glasgow this weekend to stay in with a shout, but anything less than two points in Fife would make it possibly a step too far. They end their season with a home-and-home against Manchester.
