Two days after almost snatching a point in Fribourg, Switzerland, Sheffield Steelers are in Växjö, Sweden, for their second Champions Hockey League fixture of the season. The game starts at 2pm UK time.
They face a Lakers side that beat Liam Kirk's Eisbären Berlin 3-1 on the first gameday, coming back from going a goal down early. Växjö hosted the 2018 CHL Final but lost out to JYP of Finland, a team the Steelers faced in their first CHL season, and have made the Round of 16 and Quarter-Finals in their previous two CHL seasons. Last season, they went through the first phase of the tournament unbeaten.
"The Steelers were the Champions of the EIHL last season and will be a new experience for me. I’m looking forward to playing against them” said Head Coach Jörgen Jönsson.
The Steelers had a long travel day on Friday to head up to Sweden where they'll face a team that has beaten Cardiff Devils and Glasgow Clan in previous CHL seasons. Only Cardiff Devils from the EIHL have ever beaten Swedish opponents in the Champions Hockey League, beating the Lakers 5-1 in 2018. They also took a point off them in 2018.
