Sunday: derby day in Scotland

The first Dundee Stars vs. Fife Flyers derby of the season takes place in Dundee on Sunday evening as part of a three-game spread across the Elite League.

The Stars and Flyers, who met twice in pre-season, face each other for the first time in competitive action in a Challenge Cup fixture. Both teams have already beaten Glasgow in the Cup, and been beaten at home to Belfast. The Stars picked up an overtime point in Belfast on Saturday night but arguably should have come home with two. Fife, meanwhile, threw away a two-goal lead against Manchester and lost with 17 seconds remaining.

Glasgow Clan continue their road trip in England with a trip to Coventry. It will be the Blaze's first competitive game of the season, and a home league debut for new head coach Kevin Moore. The Blaze went unbeaten in pre-season although, curiously, didn't play any EIHL opposition and so are somewhat of an unknown quantity up to now. Clan narrowly lost in Cardiff and are still searching for their first points under Corey Neilson.

The day's final game puts Guildford Flames and Cardiff Devils against each other in Cup action. While it's not really a 'local derby', a good rivalry has built up between the teams over the past seasons. Flames captain Brett Ferguson is available again following a two-game suspension. Guildford were beaten 4-3 in Nottingham on Saturday while the Devils edged past Glasgow.
