Dowd automatically suspended for aggressor penalty

Steelers forward receives suspension

On Saturday night in Sheffield, Steelers forward #75 Robert Dowd was assessed a fighting major and an automatic game misconduct for being the aggressor of an altercation.

With 1:38 left in the game, Steelers forward #75 Robert Dowd becomes involved with Guildford Flames defenseman #4 Stephen Calisti after a whistle. While Flames defenseman Calistri is tied up with an official, Dowd grabs Calistri’s visor, which is a penalty in itself. Calistri does, at this point, try to defend himself and throws a punch. Once the linesperson gets control of Calistri, Dowd then throws a left hook while Calistri is unable to defend himself. 

The two players tie up along the boards for which they are penalised with Fighting majors.

Flames Calistri then falls backwards to the ice and, while on his back, Steelers #75 Robert Dowd becomes the Aggressor when he delivers multiple blows where Calistri cannot defend himself. Dowd was assessed an aggressor penalty during the final five minutes which carries a mandatory minimum one-game suspension. This play was automatically reviewed and the one-game suspension confirmed.

• A player who is deemed to be the instigator/aggressor of an altercation in the final five (5) minutes of regulation time or at any time in overtime shall be suspended for one additional game
