A three-goal second period helped Fife Flyers turn a one-goal deficit into a 4-1 win over local rivals Dundee Stars on Saturday night in Kirkcaldy.
Zach Tsekos opened the scoring at 7:14 with a wonderful goal, toe-dragging past the defenseman before beating Shane Owen five-hole to put the Stars ahead, a lead they held into the break.
Czech defenseman Daniel Krenželok was the star of the middle period for the home side with a pair of goals to turn the game around. His first came from just inside the blue line on a broken play that appeared to beat Richard Sabol through a screen at 24:12. Just over five minutes later, he joined the rush and converted a perfectly-timed Johnny Curran pass to put the Flyers into the lead.
An almost identical play saw Phelix Martineau feed Drake Pilon for a one-time finish at 33:49 to give the Flyers a two-goal cushion.
7:34 into period three, soft hands from Martineau re-directed Oliver LeBlanc’s throw towards the net past Sabol for a 4-1 lead where the game finished.
The result ended the Flyers’ losing streak, and extended Dundee’s to three games.
