Wednesday: Giants look to stay perfect in Cup in Fife

Fife Flyers host Belfast Giants to start action in Week 6 of the 2024/25 Elite Ice Hockey League season.

Outside of games over the holiday period, this is the only home fixture that the Flyers will play on a midweek game day this season. A quirk of scheduling also sees them in action on Friday night in Cardiff, giving them a weekend off in Week 6.

Belfast lead Challenge Cup group B with a perfect record of four wins from as many games. One place and three points behind them are the Flyers, who have five from five and a .500 record so far. Only the top team in Group B advances directly to the Semi-Finals, with just the runner's up then having to go through the 'Elimination Game' - leaving the Flyers needing points wherever they can get them to have a shot at playing more Cup hockey this season. Glasgow Clan currently sit second.

The Giants will also be mindful of holding the top seeding spot for the next round so far. While they and Sheffield both have unbeaten records, the Giants have won only one of their games in overtime/shootouts, compared to the Steelers' two. Whoever finishes with the best record in the Group Stage gets first pick on their opponents in the Semi-Finals.
